Scarface

The coarse stubble, the scar tracing the jaw line…they speak to us of a certain casual disdain for middle class convention. This is not the face of a man who will discuss your portfolio or offer suggestions on your golf swing. Eyes closed, lips slightly parted; we assume he’s asleep and hope he doesn’t wake to catch us watching.

And yet there’s beauty here, and tranquility. It’s an uneasy beauty, though, and a discomforting tranquility. In that quiescent repose we get a prescient glimpse at a face on the coroner’s slab.
