Whispers in the Field 2

Here we have the timeless rhythms of rice. People have been planting and harvesting this species of grass for more than 6500 years. There are rice paddies still being cultivated that were first planted a millenium before the construction of the pyramids.

The hard work of rice has traditionally been the work of women. They grow it, they reap it, they cook it. A quiet grace adheres to a rice paddy, an aura of strength and tenacity that seems to rub off on the faceless women who work the fields. Like the rice, they bend with the wind and endure.
