wind-drawn

The forces of nature…wind and water, heat and cold…shape the world in which we live. The flow of riverwater carves out canyons, the worrying of waves sculpts wild shapes out of solid stone. Nature is a patient artist and works to no deadline – in the span of one human life untold masterpieces are made and remade.

But I’ve always been partial to the more transient effects of wind. The way it shifts the sand to shape the dune, the way it ripples rhythmically across a field of grass or tall grain. And of course the way wind gathers wayward leaves, whipping them through the air, dropping them in patterns that please the eye. The wind is not impressed by massive monuments shaped in stone. It is a sketch artist; it gives you a quick glimpse of its art, then wipes clean the slate.
