Mr. Grundy

“I’m just standing in a doorway,” Mick Jagger sings. “I’m just trying to make some sense.” And ain’t that the way of the world? We’re all trying to make some sense and we’re all waiting for something. Peace, a lover, a little justice, a really good cheeseburger, the ship they keep claiming will come in.

It’s not so bad, really, waiting. If you know how to do it. It’s all in the posture and in the attitude. You got to lean back, you got to close your eyes a little bit, you got to let time slide away, let it slide right off your shoulders like a silken shawl. And then it’s just you and the soft light, just you and the light in the hallway, and maybe that makes some sense and maybe it doesn’t. But it’s okay, it’s okay, cause you’re just waiting. Just waiting.
