A Tear

Cohesive forces. That’s what allows a water drop to form. The water molecules on the surface cohere together powerfully, creating the tension that results in the droplet’s spherical shape. Those same forces prevent this tear from falling.

Cohesive forces as invisible as water molecules also bind people and communities together. Those ties are powerful and give us the strength to allow tears to fall.

Here we have a larger world revealed in a tiny drop of water. No matter how large the world, though, it will be made measurably smaller by even the temporary absence of its photographer.
