A Feng Shui Kind of Mood

The Book of Burial says “The Qi disperses with the Wind and collects on the boundaries of Water”. From this comes feng shui; a Chinese ethnoscience that literally means “Wind and Water”. Feng Shui is a delicate interplay of construction, astrology, psychology and philosophy – a means of composing one’s space.

While the calcuations may not be so overt and we don’t usually consult the stars or the planetary alignment, we are using many of feng shui’s principles whenever we compose a photograph. We seek a harmonious canvas, free from confusion and beneficial in some way to the viewer. This beautiful image, part of the UtataLand project, achieves a vivid response: A sense of harmony with object and time, of careful placement and even destiny. These three bowls simply should not be anywhere else. They have achieved their feng shui.
