black cat

Felis domesticus. The name is a lie; no cat is ever fully domesticated. No matter how pampered, no matter how soothing the purr, no matter how impossibly cute they look curled up on the quilt, down deep in the marrow of the bone cats are only a meal or two away from considering us as food.

Cats are nature’s remedy against dignity. Their utter lack of concern or regard for any human endeavor punctures our false sense of self-importance. It even punctures any legitimate sense of self-importance, because in the end cats are only a meal or two away from considering us as food.

They have an innate sense of majesty that is absolutely immune to cruel reality. No matter how loopy they behave, or how silly they look, or how ridiculous their posture, even the scruffiest of alley cats is only a nanosecond away from adopting a bearing so regal and exalted that it would overawe kings and emperors.

Love them or hate them…they’re indifferent about it. Because they’re only a meal or two away from considering us as food.
