Soul Mate
Jean Albus

I come to frolic with you, and to cheer your drooping souls by vigour of my beams. So said the 17th century poet John Ford, and so says Jean Albus.

Here we have a frolic in every sense of the term. A gambol, a caper. An outburst of gaiety. Sportive merriment. An energetic tattoo on a drum. Just seeing those red shoes, those striped stockings makes us want to kick up our heels as well.

There’s a legal concept known as frolic and detour, which refers to a person who abandons their legitimate duties and instead engages in activities purely for their own personal enjoyment. I don’t know what Jean was supposed to be doing when she put on those shoes, those stockings. But I know she inspired me to put aside my work and frolic.
