Portrait Of The Artist As A Barefoot Hippie Freak
There’s a lot to learn from feet. In fact, the term pedagogy … the discipline of teaching … comes from the same Latin root as pedant, who in the old days was a teacher who stood on his feet in front of the class. Pedagogy, by the way, should not be confused with pedology, which is the study of the soil underfoot.
I don’t mean to peddle this photograph (did you know a peddler was originally an itinerant trader who traveled on foot…avoiding impediments that might cause one to stumble). Nor do I intend to put the photographer on a pedestal. I’m no pediseque (a follower … on foot, of course). It’s just that looking at this photo makes me want to spring and leap about at random. In other words, it makes me pedetic.
