The human face is a wondrous collection of lines, shapes, geometric planes, and topological surfaces. And all of those shapes and surfaces can shift from moment to moment with kaleidoscopic variety. How could anybody possibly hope to portray the human face accurately?
Here’s how. Read this book. Learn about lighting, learn about lenses, learn about posing and backgrounds and composition. Will reading this book make you a better portrait photographer? Well, yes…it actually will.
We normally use this space to celebrate a single photograph by a single member of Utata. Today we use it to celebrate many photographs by many Utatans whose work can be found inside the covers of this book. Today we use it to celebrate all the faces and all the ways faces can be portrayed. Today we use it to congratulate Catherine Jamieson for producing a work that really does help people become better photographers.
So this is a salute and a fanfare for everybody in Utata who contributed their photographs, their ideas, their thoughts, and their support. Huzzah for Catherine! Huzzah for Utata!
