More Than A Quarter’s Worth
The 10 cent designer

Lori Andrews, who took the above photo, taught me something very important once.

In the middle of some stressful moment which was making me more crazy than usual, and which she recognized, she said to me, “flickr for fun!”. And while it was specific to flickr, I recognized it as a useful piece of general advice … yes, indeed, (fill in your hobby or passion) for fun. Sure, make the work serious … but keep the fun bits .. you know … fun.

And this picture, she tells us in the Utata forum, is the favorite of the moment … the one she likes best. And it must be quite a feat to select, she has such a stunning stream of work. But she just liked all the elements, she said. Like all of Lori’s work it’s a bit of fun and a bit of serious, a little prose, a little poetry, some color theory, a lesson or two on composition and that other thing … its Lori-ness. Perhaps its the spirit of fun and open hearted kindness that Lori brings to her work that makes it so easy to wish you were her real-life friend, heading out fo a day of adventure together.

Yes, I think it is.

Oh … the description text on this photo?… “oh you bet i dance ”

Editor’s Note: Lori has published her own interior design book and is running a count the jelly beans contest over on her stream. Check it out! I guessed 971.
