Sailing Off Into The Sunset

One of my favorite authors, John Irving, wrote that both sorrow and love float. Buoyancy is not to be taken lightly on a world governed by the tidal forces of its rather considerable water supply. On that same world, wonderfully round, water held to it by unseen forces beyond our comprehension, the horizon is always ahead and you can never catch the sunset, no matter how tall your sails. But still, we sail off towards them, in all earnest expectation that we might yet touch the edge if we are persistent enough. Hope, it would seem, also floats.
