It takes a lot of work to paint a barn. A lot of work, a lot of paint, and a lot of time. Farmers don’t mind the work, they can come by the paint, but it’s not always easy to find the time when the weather is nice. It’s a fact for which painters and photographers are eternally grateful.

We love our weathered barns. We love them with an irrational passion. We love them for their individuality and for their sameness, because all weathered barns look alike, and yet no two are the same. Barns are the snowflakes of the agricultural world.

Let the paint fade and peel. Let the tin roofs turn to rust, let mold and moss prosper and spread. Let decay and rot infest the wood. Let the barns fail and fall, and let us be there to observe the beauty.

And let all photographers praise all farmers.
