Little Quiet Conversation

Really, there’s nothing new to say. Everything has already been said about everything worth talking about. Yet there is nothing more pleasant, nothing more fulfilling, nothing more fundamentally satisfying to the soul than a quiet conversation in a semi-dark place with somebody you like.

A good conversation is akin to a dance between two partners who have known each other very well for a very long time. It glides easily across topics, touching on this one, lingering over that one, deftly sidestepping another. The dance is dictated by surprisingly delicate rhythms nobody else can hear, intimate rhythms that insinuate themselves into the conversation and mute the conversations of those around you.

There is nothing new to say, and no new words for saying the same old things. But there are ways of saying that transcend what is said, and many of the best conversations are expressed in perfect silence.
