fin

Watched it coming up Winslow
Down South Park Boulevard
Yeah it was looking good from tail to hood
Great big fins and painted steel
Man it looked just like the Batmobile
With my old man behind the wheel

From Steve Earle’s Copperhead Road where he told us that “Daddy ran the whiskey in a big block Dodge” to the above lyrics from Mark Cohn’s Silver Thunderbird, cars have held a special place in North American popular culture. Who could forget the car chase in Bullitt or the cruising scenes in American Graffiti? Would Louise have been Louise without her ’66 t-bird? Would Bond be Bond without his Aston Martin roadster? Whether it’s the engineering or the aesthetic, automobiles have helped define each of our generations since Henry Ford opened his small business in 1903.
