Soft Drapery

When your eyes are half closed, like when you first awaken from a dream, the world is a diffused, grainy caricature of itself. The color spectrum is reduced to hues and shades, the darkness and light are indistinct and texture can seem animated. The visual moves, just a little, into the physical realm when one is half awake from a dream-state.

When a photographer does soft focus well, it makes color deep and vivid and brings to the viewer a sense of the dream-state. Our eyes try to finish the camera’s job and lay a final layer of focus over the image … to decipher it. Oh! And what joyful treasures await you in this newly awakened state, in the rich landscape of this photograph. Your mind will want to write a poem.
