paper

This is where it begins, the process of writing. The empty page…a pale expanse of nothingness, devoid of signposts or landmarks, bounded only by the limits of your creativity and imagination. Sheaf upon sheaf of blank white paper…waiting.

To some these reams of paper stand like tombstones, awaiting the inscriptions of the names of the dead. So many writers fail and wither when faced with the barren aspect of the blank page. To others these sheafs stand like like minarets awaiting the moment when the faithful are called to prayer. For many writers the act of writing is also an act of faith, a leap into the abyss made possible only by the irrational belief that everything will be okay.

But really, it’s just paper. There’s nothing dangerous about it, nothing holy. Most of the words written on it will quickly be forgotten, and rightly so. There’s always another sheet of blank white paper…waiting.
