Brothers and sisters, you got yourself two good hands. Two good hands, one for the taking and one for the giving. I want you to reach out your one hand, reach it out to your brothers and sisters who are hungry and ain’t got what to eat. Reach out to them who are weary and ain’t got where to sleep, who are lonely and ain’t got who to lean on. I want you to reach out your hand, because that’s what it’s there for.

And I want you to reach out your other hand, reach out your other hand and be willing to accept what’s freely given. When you’re offered love, be willing to accept it. When you’re offered peace, be willing to accept it. When you’re offered a moment’s respite from the weary-making ways of the world, I want you reach out your hand, reach our your open hand and accept it, because that’s what it’s there for.

And after you’ve reached out to your brothers and your sisters, I want you to reach out one more time. Reach out one more time with both your hands. Reach out to your ownself. Be as kind to yourself as you are to others. Be as loving and forgiving of yourself as you are to your friends and family. Be as gentle and considerate to yourself as you are to a stranger on the street. Reach out your hands, brothers and sisters, reach ’em on out, because that’s what they’re there for.
