DILO: The Best Part of Waking Up

I recently gave up my daily thermos of coffee, in favor of the occasional cappuccino in the afternoon or Americano with Sunday morning’s french toast and bacon. I wanted to see if that little sacrifice would make me feel less dehydrated, be good for my skin, prevent me from using caffeine as a crutch to lean on when I’m lazy or uninspired or just plain not willing to face the facts of the world.

It’s kind of done those things. It has, really. But it’s also taken away from my work day a sense of ritual and stability. I make myself a cup of tea around 11, if I remember, but usually I don’t, and it’s not the same thing at all. I miss the fact of coffee, as reliable a marker of the morning as the sunrise.

I still have my computer and my cords, though. Yep. Thank goodness for that.
