No Warning to her Flight

Children…let’s admit this right up front…are foolish. They are. They’re actually capable of believing they can fly. They’re not just being cute or frivolous; there is a part of them that truly believes if they strap on a pair of wings they might be able to lift off, to escape the confines of gravity, to defy science and fly.

You and I know better. You and I, we’re bound and gagged by science. We may not be familiar with the latest revelations about the various theories of gravitation, we may not understand aerodynamics, we may have only the most rudimentary grasp of Newtonian physics, but we damned well know we can’t fly. Strapping on wings will just make us look and feel silly. We know that.

But children, what do they know? Look at her, with her little bare feet and her innocent smile and her belief that maybe she can fly, maybe, if she just gets it right. Foolish child.

How I envy her.
