A dog never misbehaves. Never. Oh, sometimes the things they do will violate a few human social conventions. But dogs have never signed any contract to obey human social conventions. We may train them to obey those conventions, but that’s just us imposing our will on the dog. It’s not the dog’s natural response.
Unless it’s been trained by a human, a dog does what is natural for a dog to do. If the dog has been trained by a human, it does what the human finds convenient or useful or amusing. That isn’t to say the dog won’t also find it convenient or useful or amusing. The dog may thoroughly enjoy the training. It’s just not the dog’s natural response.
This dog, running joyfully on the riverbank, is doing what dogs do. But notice this: he’s turning back. He’s turning back to check on the human behind him. He’s turning back, not because of training, but out of affection. Affection is the dog’s natural response.
