Beansy and the red drape

A dog is a friend, a dog is a companion, a dog is like a neighborhood busybody who knows everything that’s happening on the street. A dog will know that your neighbor just drove off somewhere, that a cat is outside sunning on a porch, that squirrels are racing along electrical lines and hopping crazily from tree branch to tree branch, that a leaf fell, that it started to snow, that an icicle jumped from the edge of your roof, that the kids are out of school, that the postman is coming up the walk with the day’s mail, that your neighbor just returned with a carload of groceries. A dog who has a window knows all of these things, because a dog who has a window sees all of these things. A dog could tell you so much if he could, but instead will dream of being out there in the middle of all of it when he curls up in the sun streaming through that window and takes a nap.
