No, it’s not a dog. It will never jump on your bed in the morning and lick your face. It won’t bark at the postman, wallow in mud, or dig holes in your back yard. This creature will not chew on your shoes or run around in madly-excited circles whenever you say words like “walk” or “go” or “outside” and it won’t ever catch a frisbee in its mouth. It won’t beg you for your dinner or accompany you on your daily run or sit for a treat or ride with you in your car. It won’t do any of those things because it’s not a dog. It’s a fish, and so it will swim. It will swim perfectly, gracefully, beautifully, darting through the water like a mythical creature. Like your own personal mermaid.
