untitled

Nested there, soft as a sparrow, fresh as milk. So perfect and so vulnerable. So perfect and so innocent. So perfect and soft and fresh.

It seems impossible that we—flawed as we are—can create such small and perfect beings. It seems impossible they can re-create us in turn, change us, change the way we see the world, make us better than we thought we could ever be.

Bend your head a little closer. Hold the infant a little tighter. Pull the blanket a bit more snug. Protect this child, so perfect and fresh and soft.
