The carnival is back in town!

The carnival is back, with the ferris wheel and tilt-a-whirl. It’s back and the whole world smells of machine oil and funnel cakes. There is lemonade so cold it’ll make you blind, and everywhere there are lines of people. Sun-burnt people, smelling of corn-dogs and Coppertone, waiting and waiting, shuffle three steps and waiting.

The carnival is in town, with tattooed carnies grinning around Marlboros. It’s back and the whole world is filled with noise. Loud-voiced barkers urge you to try your luck—win a prize for the pretty girl! Cheap loudspeakers play tinny distorted versions of rock songs you never liked in the first place.

The carnival is back in town, and it’s too hot or too cold and everybody is happy and everybody is cranky and I’m gonna be first in line for everything!
