…
They’ll seduce you, those things. You’ll think you’d never want one in your life, see them in other people’s hands and think Mmm, that looks like fun, but it’s not for me. What you’ve already got is quite good enough for you, you’ll be quite sure.
Then one day someone will give you one, or you’ll see one for cheap buried under an old comic book at a garage sale, or you’ll just be in the mood for a change, a whiff of a new wind, something, and you’ll have one. Just one. You’ll try it and smile, and you might be lost then, or you might hold out for just a little bit longer.
But sooner or later a second will come, out of nowhere it seems; you’ll order it late one night without really thinking about it, or it will arrive in the mail with no warning, and look, there will be a spot just the right size for it next to the first one. And you’ll use it and frown, because it doesn’t quite work right and you’ll have to figure out how to fix it, and then for sure you’re gone, even if you don’t know it.
One after the other they’ll be there, because even though they have a lot in common each one is just a little different, and it’s that you crave, in the end, that individuality they’ve got. Personality.
Seduction. That’s what it is. You’ve got no chance.
