A firefly is many things. It is insect. A firefly is a winged beetle of the family Lampyridae, some species of which are nocturnal and capable of producing a strange, beautiful bioluminescent glow because of a chemical reaction that takes place inside specialized organs.
It is idea. A firefly embodies the power of a tiny pinprick of light to illuminate the dark night. It is the expression of the loveliness of an inner self, shining through an outer shell.
And it is inspiration. A firefly on a finger, or flashing through the dusk, brings hope, delight, and laughter. Summer is here, it calls. Come outside. Watch my bright, brief flight. Dream of your own.
