Beliefs People Have Held About Eggs; A Partial List:

1. That if you remove an egg from its shell without breaking the yolk, then mix it with your own pee, the next morning its appearance will tell you if you are pregnant. Or, if you know you are pregnant, it will tell you whether you are bound to have a boy or a girl. No word on what the exercise tells the hen.

2. That if you do not prick a hole in the bottom of an eggshell after you eat it, a witch might use it to set sail across the seas.

3. That if you find an unusually small egg, with no yolk in it, this has been laid by a rooster, and can be used for all sorts of dark magic.

4. That it is unlucky for a hen to sit on an even number of eggs; or for eggs to be brought into the house after sundown.

5. That if a man pierces each end of an egg and blows its contents into the mouth of a woman, she will soon become pregnant. No word on whether this was often the woman’s preferred method.

Beliefs I Hold, Right Now, About This Photo:

1. That if seen on a Monday morning, it will instantly brighten the viewer’s day.
