another day. it’s a wrap

There’s no longer any distraction in books, no entertainment in the 180 high def channels, nothing on the internet to divert or amuse, the music on the iPod all sounds the same. There’s nothing but the curtainless window and, outside, the growing anonymity of twilight.

The books are full of adventure I don’t experience; the television full of romance I don’t have; the internet full of discussions I don’t understand or care about; the iPod full of songs that repeat the same lies I’ve listened to for all my life. Might as well close the book, turn off the television, log off the computer, shut down the iPod. Might as well put on my shoes, turn off the light, and go see what’s outside the window.

There’s a coffee shop down the road—the tables filled with people by themselves, reading books, looking at their computers, listening to their iPods, looking out the window at the growing anonymity of twilight.
