from the other side
Today will be unpredictable as a puppy.
Today I will drive no car nor ride no bike. Today I will walk, and everywhere I walk I will see wonders. Today each street will reveal a miracle, each alley a mystery. Today each shop will be staffed with poets and philosophers. Everything I buy will be a bargain. Every child I see will be a prodigy. Every yard I pass will be a garden. Every mailbox will hold an unexpected prize.
Today the ordinary will be exceptional, the exceptional will be marvelous, and the marvelous will be mundane. Today I will see the breeze turn a leaf into wounded but defiant hawk, I will see a patch of sunlight on a green bench and know no other person in the world will have seen sunlight so pure, I will lay the palm of my hand on rough wall and feel every moment of its long losing struggle against time.
Today I will do all this. And tomorrow—tomorrow is hours away.
