For the first few seconds I spent looking at this photograph, I thought I was seeing something in flight—the wing of a plane, the limpid blue sky, the sheen of the sun on the surface of a bullet speeding through the air. My mind caught on that trajectory. I couldn’t parse the fact of being earthbound.
For the first few seconds, I may have been right.
