It’s the perfect day to slip into these shoes. The sun beckons you outside, and the breeze through the window waves like a royal, or a beauty queen, blowing little puffs of happiness into the room. At long last, it’s warm enough for the sweet white dress you’ve been inching forward in your closet toward the first day of spring. True, spring is still a month away, but your mother taught you to break the rules: Do wear white before Memorial Day, don’t match your shoes to your purse, and by all means, wear red shoes. She said red was your color, and though you never believed her, one twirl in the pure morning light, and you know she was right.
