Apocalypses aren’t always heralded by horsemen. Sometimes they come with broken windows, vacant lots, wheel-less cars, and needles left on potholed streets instead. And when they do, whether or not you believe in heaven, we can agree on one thing: Redemption doesn’t always have the wings of heaven. Its tools cannot be predicted. Who would have thought, after all, that in Michigan one year the revelation would be found in cast-off toys, last year’s Santa Clauses, and polka dots?
