Hassy in City Streets
DowntownRickyBrown

So this morning I’m sitting here, weary and heartsick over my problems and the problems of the world. My knees ache, there’s no cream for the coffee, a second light bulb over the mirror in the bathroom has burnt out and I’ll probably forget—again—to stop and buy new bulbs and tomorrow I’ll be shaving in the dark. I have errands to run, chores to do, work to accomplish—and absolutely no desire to do any of it. It is, by almost any measure, a grey grim morning.

And then this.

It is impossible to resist the Power of the Cute Puppy. Look at those feet. I declare, they’re almost as big as his head. And those Dobby-the-House-Elf ears? Come on. And the Canadian Maple Leaf blaze on his tiny little chest? I am helpless against the puppy.

It doesn’t really change anything. Not really. My knees still ache and I’ll still forget to buy light bulbs. But right now I’m smiling. And tomorrow morning as I’m shaving in the dark, I’ll be reminded of this photograph and that puppy and I’ll be smiling again.
