Not far from Taito Station, two hours before midnight, walking, thinking Tom Waits thoughts, wishing he could meet a waitress—a woman divorced from a saxaphone player with a heroin habit who left her just ahead of the police, abandoning her with nothing but bruises and a bundle of bad checks; a woman with big tits who fries bacon and eggs in a cast iron skillet and only wants to meet a decent man with a steady job.

We all want what we don’t have. We all want to try on other people’s lives. We all want to be a saviour for someone with low expectations. We all want what we don’t have.

Tom Waits wants to walk down Japanese streets, two hours before midnight, on his way to Taito Station.
