wild goose chase

ship shape

“There was no foolish gilding and gingerbread work,‥but everything was ‘ship-shape’.” Richard Henry Dana

If it’s shaped like a ship is it a ship?

Will it sink like a stone or hold its own weight?

Will it take on passengers?

Will it weather stormy seas?

Or will it remain beached at the shoreline.

If it looks like a ship, does that make it shipshape?

(Shipshape /ˈʃɪpʃeɪp/ Arranged properly, as things on board ship should be; trim, orderly. OED)
