Here we are, caught in the tension between the shadowy past and the shaky present, hurtling blindly toward an unpredictable future.
That sounds desperate, disturbing, alarming. It’s not. It’s routine. It’s how we live. We assume today will be pretty much like yesterday, and tomorrow will be about the same as today. And most likely, it will be.
And yet…
There’s beauty in and yet. There’s poetry in it, and adventure, and sure, sometimes failure and even tragedy. And yet…isn’t it worth it? Do we really want today to be like yesterday and tomorrow to be like today, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, amen?
Here we are, caught in the tension between the shadowy past and the shaky present, hurtling blindly toward an unpredictable future. But everything seems to be okay at the moment. The next moment? The next moment is a gift full of and yet. Half the fun of receiving a gift is the thrill of unwrapping it.
