Alex
O Caritas

We meet people. We exchange a few words, maybe engage in some sort of commerce, try to find something in common. And there it is.

“Did you see the game last night?” “Where’d you get those shoes?” “Can you believe this weather?” “Did you see that show on television?”

We try to find something in common. That’s much of what makes us human, that instinctive desire to connect with others, however briefly and regardless of how shallow. It makes us human and it makes humankind a worthy species. Absent the pernicious influence of politics and religion (and a few other divisive worldviews) we mostly want to get along. Getting along is really so very simple. It’s amazing how easily people can fuck that up.

We all meet people. Some of us meet them every day. A few weeks ago, Patrick met Alex. He did not fuck it up.
