The Abandoned Banana Peel

Andy Warhol travelled through time. This was almost definitely Andy’s banana. See how perfectly it was arranged to catch the light. Can it be accidental that the napkin underneath is folded in such a way as to draw our eyes to the line of the shadow?

In 2012 he took a flight from somewhere to anywhere, he wondered how it was that air travel had become so horrid. He sat down in a departure lounge, he ate a banana. Then he time-warped back to 1967 knocked out a cover for the Velvet Underground and Nico, and warmed up some soup for supper.

When he said that “Art is anything you can get away with” Andy knew that by 2012 photographing an abandoned banana peel at an international airport could be fraught with danger.

He also said that “everybody winds up kissing the wrong person good night”. What he actually meant to say there, was that “not everybody winds up shooting the right fruit in a good light”.

He was a visionary artist, an impresario and a time traveller. We must allow him to get a little befuddled, from time to time.
