Boathouse

There are people who take digital photos and there are people who shoot film.

And there are people who develop their own film.

There are people who develop their own black and white film and there are others who process their colour film.

There are different paths, choices to be made at each turn. Am I a landscape photographer or do I prefer working with people? Shall I use natural light or kit out a studio?

I like that you can look at this shot, see the layers of the landscape and know there are hidden layers: the film; the processing, the scanning. All the paths and choices made by the photographer that led to this deceptively simple scene – a boathouse, the sea and a patch of grass. All the elements that make the whole so much more than the sum of its parts.
