<p>Once it was that semi-pleasant place you passed through on your way to somewhere else. Now it&#8217;s not even that. Now it&#8217;s a dustscape, a deadweedscape, a lizardscape. It&#8217;s a wind-slapped slab, a home to rust, so hot and parched that even shadows evaporate. It smells of the dry husks of dead insects.</p>
<p>The middle of nowhere. Not even the roadkill is willing to stop there for long.</p>
