How does fame work? How do you learn to be a celebrity, to conquer the spotlight, to turn your back on the adoring crowd and walk away?

Momma tells you that the coolest kids are the one who don’t try to be cool. She has to be wrong, there has to be a bible of famous somewhere, a rulebook that tells you exactly the angle to raise your hand, the best clippers to use on your hair, there must be a hidden website of wannabe wisdom.

What did these people do to become famous? It has to be more than the pretty face and the sweet voice. They step out of the darkness and step into the tabloids and TMZ.

Suddenly the darkness seems safer .
