In the Water

I understand, I really do.
Summer may not agree with you.
You like the fall, the autumn leaves,
The mists and fog that Nature weaves,
And warmer shirts with longer sleeves.

I really do, I understand
But I like life a bit unplanned.
When days get hot, and then get hotter
I like dangling toes in water
That moves like Saraswati’s daughter.

I understand, I really do,
The Autumnal point of view
But nothing Fall can improvise
Approaches Summer’s best surprise:
The elegance of fireflies.

I really do, I understand
Why Autumn is in high demand.
But summer tardiness is chronic,
So give me one more gin and tonic
And I’ll be fine; I’ll be hedonic
When pumpkin-time arrives, sardonic.
