This is old light. It’s been here a long, long time, rubbing up against the hurricane lamp and figurines like a sleepy cat. The old light takes its time moving around the house; it stops, lingers a while on this or that, stretches, then moves on. It knows this house, knows this room, knows everything in it. Knows it all, and knows it intimately.
The light has circled this room so many times it’s become as rounded and smooth as a stone in a creek.
Editorial note: In the interest of full disclosure, Jody Miller is currently preparing a book featuring photographs of this abandoned house. I will be providing the text.
