(42) where I wish I was

Sometimes you just want to stay in bed.

It’s not just the pull of the day — the meeting scheduled later where you already know that things won’t go your way. The day standing at the counter, smiling for customers who only gripe and moan. The noise of the factory floor or the delivery round that you have to make rain, sleet or hail. The wail of sick children or the impossible task of doing the weekly shop when the prices keep going up but the money just isn’t coming in any more.

Sometimes you just want to stay in bed, and you know what’s ahead and what’s gone before, but you stop to take a shot of a rumpled duvet and some morning light, knowing that tomorrow and tomorrow there will be more photos to take. Because on top of the pull of the day, each and every day this year you’ll be taking a shot like this, or one quite unlike this, because you’ve embarked on a project — which is a commitment — and it’s one that you intend to keep.
