Look at this woman. She is offering you a single flower. A flower such as a small child might paint, with splodges of lush petals, and a stem that sinuously danced towards sunlight.
Today is International Women’s Day and I could write about the violence and injustice experienced by women worldwide. I could go on about how much healthier a society becomes when we invest in women’s welfare and education. We already know this to be true, and women who have known suffering have more right to tell their stories.
Instead I’d like to introduce you to this picture of a 76 year old woman. She looks bright and gentle, healthy, strong and caring, truly beautiful. Some of this I assume through the photographer’s artistry, much I project on to the image, because I am lucky enough to have such women in my life. Please imagine a world where we are all that lucky.
