Spring at the Lake

A girl whose hair is yellower than torchlight should wear no headdress but fresh flower.”

That may well have been true some 2600 years ago when the Greek poet Sappho wrote it in an ode to her daughter, Cleis. But it ain’t true now.

Had Sappho been fortunate enough to visit Toronto in early March of this year and seen this child, she might have altered her famous poem.

“…no headdress but fresh flower. Or something pink and fuzzy. With ears.”
