When the blackbird flew out of sight,
It marked the edge
Of one of many circles.

From Thirteen Ways of  Looking at a Blackbird by Wallace Stevens

However still it may seem, everything is in motion. The ripples will shimmer out over the lake, the baby will become less dependent on the mother, will one day walk alone, will move away.

The photograph captures a split second, it cheats time, and freezes this instant before the ripples diminish, fixes the shifting shadows before the baby becomes adult; but even in this still silent moment time passes.
