Here’s Bill. We already know a couple of things about Bill – seek out the photo on Flickr and you’ll find a little about what he does and what he did.
But look again. What can you see in those eyes? What does you learn about Bill from the length of his hair. From the fainter lines on the bridge of his nose and the deeper ones around his eyes. And what does that sweep of water show you about the man.
And, while you’re on the subject, why did Ryan chose that moment to take the picture, just as his expression turned from concentration to recognition. And just then when the sweep of soapy water turned Bill’s arm into an angel’s wing. What does that tell us about the photographer?
