makin’ it rain

“In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.”
   — Albert Camus

Friends, there is delight in this portrait. I love the balance of color, all centered on damp red curls and the little girl’s purple suit. Check out the lines of her arms, the hose, the spray of the water — the very composition of the image is all about play.  And even more so, I love her expression, her poise. She is uniquely herself; she is right where she’s supposed to be, and that’s all that matters.

Summer calls on us to get out there and thrive. It’s about light and heat, and it’s for getting drenched whether we mean to or not. It’s about shedding what we don’t really need anymore, finding that powerful, radiant part of ourselves, and enjoying it so madly that it never fully leaves us, no matter how cold and dark our winters might become.

Her gaze says it all:  in her joy, she is invincible.  May she never once forget it.
